start to finish : part b
NCWIT 2009 Symons Innovator Award continued ... I mixed a total of four colors which had to be printed in two sections each and also added a blind deboss element, so each of the four final prints passed through the press a total of nine times at various angles.
Once I was finished with the prints, enter my studio neighbor and friend, Valerie. She was commissioned to do the custom framing of the awards and came up with three different artistic interpretations to set off the design of the award beautifully. We did some collaborative work on a couple of them and were up late one night in the studio holding our breath as we put the mat into the press to create this dimensional effect combined with her hand-painting. We were both thrilled with the results.
As for the final framed pieces, I will have to keep the suspense as the award has yet to be presented to the winner. I am proud to be a part of this woman-powered, local, creative, entrepreneurial, collaborative effort juxtaposing new technology and historical craftsmanship in harmony. Much more of this to come!
