Letterpress Weekend

Saturday, the opening of Pressed!, on the second level of the Denver Pavilions, 500 16th Street, from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m., featuring a comprehensive exhibit of works by letterpress typographers including the Hamilton 10th Anniversary show, Prints from Hatch Showprint, Nashville, TN, Works produced at the TypeLab/Rob Roy Kelly American Wood Type Collection at the University of Texas, Austin and beyond which will remain on view through July 4. A limited number of works will also be for sale.

A symposium titled About Face, also at the museum, on Saturday from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Denver Art Museum, including screenings and an incredible panel of typophiles.

The first screening of Typeface, a film about the Hamilton Wood Type Museum in Wisconsin, was actually last night {Thursday}at Starz FilmCenter on the Auraria campus with special appearance by Filmmaker Justine Nagan. There are more opportunities to see it, including tonight {Friday}from 6 to 10 p.m. at the Denver Art Museum’s monthly Untitled event, an evening of what Rick Griffith calls “typography tomfoolery” on the theme of Typo. Foot-press printing demos with Griffith, a typography scavenger hunt and a Scrabble tournament are just a few of the related events included.
